MOSAIC‘s 3rd annual job fair is one of the largest job fairs in the province and has attracted 50 employers to sign on to participate this year. Companies representing sectors such as hi-tech, finance, healthcare, hospitality and retail will be looking to fill job openings, which are expected to be over a million this decade. According to MOSAIC, a projected one-third of these jobs will be filled by new immigrants. For the first time the skills and trades sector will also be represented and 16 organizations will be featuring job postings for welders, glaziers, engineers, estimators, ranging from apprentices and journeymen to supervisors, managers, and directors. the City of Vancouver and the police department will also be represented at the fair.
In a press release Larry Chan, Senior Manager of Employment Programs for MOSAIC, said: “Last year, over 3000 job seekers came to our fair. This year, we have nearly double the number of employers and the range of jobs and the industries available is very impressive. Many companies are looking for multiple hires in various positions and we’re encouraging all our employment clients to attend. We’re expecting a big turnout.”
Fiona Ho, HR Generalist of Fortinet Technologies has some advice for job seekers: “Bring your resume. Be prepared. Be interested in the company vs. focusing on the job you’re interested in. And when you’re asked “what are you looking for?” don’t say “I just want a job”. We already know it – that’s why you’re here.”
MOSAIC’s 3rd Annual Job Fair is on Tuesday, April 8 from 10 am-4 pm at the Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive in Vancouver. The Job Fair is open to all job seekers and admission is free.
