NewtoBC is an online resource project, funded by IRCC, that offers a unique volunteer outreach program for newcomers. The Library Champions Project trains participants to build communication, presentation and outreach skills in libraries and out in the community. The three-month plan is developed to fit the participant’s schedule and includes sharing information with friends, family, colleagues and individual community member, giving group presentations, speaking with community agencies and using social media.
As of July 2016 more than 800 new immigrants have been trained as Library Champions and they, in turn, have reached out to over 55,000 new immigrants. For more information and how to join the program, follow this link.
